Terence Lewis is one of the most recognized dancers and choreographers in India. His journey as a self-taught artist inspired him to set up the Terence Lewis Academy (TLA) to train aspiring dance professionals in 1998. Its’ name was later changed to the Terence Lewis Professional Training Institute (TLPTI) to reflect its’ focus on making dance a viable, sustainable career for young people via systematic dance training.

Many of our students go on to establish successful independent careers as choreographers and independent artists (Shakti Mohan is just one, see Alumni section for more). The most talented students are absorbed by the Terence Lewis Contemporary Dance Company, allowing them a seamless transition from ‘earning to learning’ with our Performing Scholarship Programme. Those who have the talent, focus and discipline continue to rise in the Company, being promoted and eventually working as dance instructors, rehearsal directors and workshop leaders with the Company.

The TLPTI also provides dance workshops to schools, colleges and corporate organizations across India.
